Headin’ for New Orleans

SRC Club member Charlie Foote’s wife Barb sent this dispatch as Charlie and a group of IFMR motorcyclists joined up to attend the Rotary International Convention in New Orleans:

“Charlie will arrive in Baton Rouge tomorrow [May 19] with 15 other riders. A very tired group will be escorted into New Orleans on Friday [May 20] with about 40-50 riders. Numbers haven’t been confirmed yet.

“Hope you will have a good Rotary Run on Sunday and the sun will shine.

“They rode in rain Sun/Mon & Tuesday. Today they had sun. When leaving Cherokee, NC, this morning it was 40 degrees — when arriving in Tucaloosa, AL, tonight it was 80 degrees.”

Rotary Leadership Institute official to address SRC

Frank E. Wargo, past governor of District 7890 (covering parts of Connecticut and Massachusetts), will be the guest speaker at our club’s November 18 meeting.

Frank now serves as the International Training Coordinator for the Rotary Leadership Institute. The RLI describes itself as “a multi-district, grassroots leadership development program of member districts organized into regional divisions in various parts of the world.”

RLI, which not an official program of Rotary International and, thus, is not controlled by RI, “seeks to have Rotary Clubs in its member districts identify those Rotarians who appear to have the potential for future club leadership — not necessarily as club presidents — and provide those so identified with a quality education in Rotary knowledge and leadership skills so important in voluntary organizations.”
