‘Easter Baskets for Cate’s Kids’ push under way

Screen shot 2016-02-12 at 3.37.09 PMFor the second consecutive year, the Southern Rensselaer County Rotary Club is participating  in “Easter Baskets for Cate’s Kids” through the Circles of Mercy family assistance organization.

Last year we donated a dozen or so baskets for needy kids, ages 1 through 12. This year, because our club has grown exponentially, we have pledged 20 baskets.

Here’s how it works:

• The Club pays for the baskets, filler “grass,” and clear wrap.
• The Club members purchase and donate items from a list supplied by Circles of Mercy.
• One or two “assembling” sessions are held to create the finished baskets.

Simple, right? But only if everyone pitches in to accomplish the task.

Because Easter will fall on Sunday, March 27, this year (it was in April last year), we’re on a tight turnaround schedule. We need to have our baskets filled and finished no later than Saturday, March 19, so they can be delivered to Circles of Mercy by its March 21 deadline for distribution to the children.

Members will be receiving details of when to drop off the items, etc. Meanwhile, here is the list of requested items you can begin purchasing right away:

• Traditional Easter candies
• Coloring books
• Crayons
• Color pencils
• Facial tissues
• Toothpaste
• Tooth brushes
• Dental floss
• Hair combs and brushes
• Small stuffed animals
• Toys
• Books
