Our own Murray Forth received his second major honor in a month, when he was among a group of outstanding volunteers feted by the Capital District YMCA at the President’s Award Recognition Dinner on Thursday night at the Marriott in Colonie.
Individual YMCAs selected 10 volunteers for service to those particular venues, while longtime local businessman and Y leader Ed Lewi received a lifetime achievement award. As a group, they were represented by the evening’s theme, “Celebrate Heroes Among Us.”
Murray, who was honored at our 55th Charter Anniversary Dinner in March as our “2014-15 Rotarian of the Year,” wrote this message for his page on the YMCA dinner program:
“I would like to thank everyone at the Capital District YMCA including the staff and volunteers at the Greenbush YMCA for this wonderful honor. Having been a long-time volunteer in the Greenbush community, I am proud to have the opportunity to support the mission of the Y and its cause of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
“I have been blessed with a beautiful family and strong circle of friends who share in my passion for helping others and I would like to thank them for their love and support. We have come together to support numerous organizations and initiatives in our community and have helped create a strong partnership with the Greenbush YMCA and the Southern Rensselaer County Rotary Club. This partnership has helped children and families in our community through camp programs as well as supplying food for those in need. It gives me great pleasure to be able to give back to my community.
“It is with great humility that I accept this award on behalf of the staff and volunteers who bring the mission of the Y to life every day. Finally, I would like to congratulate all of the President’s Award honorees and thank you for sharing your passion and commitment with us all.”
In addition to Murray’s family and other friends, a contingent from the SRC attended the event to cheer him on — Bill Dowd, April Dowd, Terry Brewer, Jim Leyhane and Dick Drumm.
