• CPR Certification Training is set for Saturday, March 16, at Maple Hill High School. Reservations, being handled by the Top Form office, are coming in. The advertisement has been in the Advertiser newspaper and will continue to run until March 15.

• Two “Rotary Home Cooking” dinners are being planned, one at the Browns’ residence at a date to be determined in April, and one on May 4 co-hosted by Debbie Rodriguez and Pat Bailey.

Program: Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County

Barbara Wyman, executive director of Literacy Volunteers, was our speaker. She announced that the next training session for volunteers is scheduled for March 13. There will be several more held, including an online session.

Barbara explained the many programs the LVORC now offers, including a new one that involves teaching at the Rensselaer County Jail.

LVORC programs include English as a second language, civics, math tutoring, GED preparation, telephone conversation partners, computer literacy. Volunteers work with children as well as adults.

Barbara also spoke about the La Crosse team who recently volunteered to read to a group of young children. She also read some of the writings contained a recent booklet titled “Students & Tutors, In Their Own Words.” Last year, LVORC assisted 175 students and about 100 children.
