Weekly message from Terry

• Week of September 26, 2011.

Fellow Rotarians:

The meeting last week was well attended, with 17 Rotarians present.

Ron Annis provided a very interesting program on head injuries and precautions being used in sports medicine to prevent and monitor concussions of student athletes. He provided very interesting slides on the impact of brain trauma and the long-term effects of a concussion. Thanks, Ron, for sharing with the club.

What would you do if a family member or grandchild needed medical support?

Are you familiar with standard first aid, CPR and how to use an AED?

I have asked Ron to provide us with a brief training session on basic first aid techniques for the meeting this week. This is a session you cannot afford to miss.

Jim Mendrysa is not available for catering this week, so we are going with a pizza, wings and antipasto salad dinner. We will also have beverages and dessert.

I have the following members attending this week. If you have a change in plans please let me know: Ron Annis, Pat Bailey, Terry Brewer,  Deb Brown, Peter Brown, Doris Calamaras, Bill Dowd, April Dowd, Russ Edberg, Phil Egan, Charlie Foote,  Murray Forth, Jim Leyhane, Deb Rodriquez and Rommel Tolentino.

A reminder: April Dowd is  working with Peaceable Kingdom Animal Rescue and needs  old newspapers, towels and other items to support the care of the animals turned over to the home. The devastation of the storms last month have left many animals without homes and appropriate care. April and Bill are requesting our support, so please bring the items to a meeting. April and Bill will get the donations to the shelter. Thanks, April and Bill, for your dedication to the animal shelter.

See you on Thursday.

— Terry
