An estimated 270 runners pounded the course in the 31st annual Rotary Run, held at the Green Meadow School in Schodack this morning. The event, sponsored by the Southern Rennselaer County Rotary Club, went off smoothly despite overcast skies that belied the weather forecast for a day full of sunshine.
As always, competitors of all ages took part, with the annual Bob Smith 5-Mile Run as the centerpiece of the day. A 5K run, one-mile run, a “one-lap wonder” and a race for disabled athletes all were held again this year.
Participants were treated to souvenir, iridescent green T-shirts for the event, as well as fresh fruits, pastries and beverages to help them fuel up and cool down.
Said club president Terry Brewer, “The support from our club members was outstanding, with everyone helping to make the Run a success. We are still working on the totals for runners and other wrap-up procedures with a report to be shared at our next meeting on May 26.
“A special thanks to Peter and Deb Brown for organizing the pre-registration process, to Doris Calamaras for the kids table, to Murray Forth for re-marking the course, to Russ Edberg for driving the safety car, to Rob Mangold and Ron Annis for getting the sponsors for the race, and to ALL club members for working the Run and setting-up/clean-up of the facilities. A great job done by all. Check the website for all the pictures that Bill Dowd took of the event. Thanks, Bill.”
